Our Team... Jean K. O'Connell President 
Jean has been meeting the grant development needs of municipalities, school districts, and nonprofit organizations since 1986. In November of 1991, she assumed the position of sole proprietor of J. O'Connell & Associates, Inc., Grant Consultants. Jean has a varied professional background, which includes teaching, serving as an Executive Director of a senior center, and working as a grant-writer for another firm. Jean and a partner worked two years in a new grants consulting firm, which soon became J. O'Connell & Associates, Inc. Jean is a graduate of Buffalo State College, and has a BS and MS in Education, as well as a New York State Teacher's Certification. In addition to her credentials, she is a member of the National Society of Fundraising Executives, Western New York Chapter. In June of 1997, she graduated as a fellow of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Management. She enthusiastically embraces the development and implementation of all of the challenges presented in entrepreneurial leadership for the betterment of her business. The success of J. O'Connell & Associates, Inc. has been recognized by the business community and Jean has received many awards. Gary J. Rouleau Director of Grant Operations 
Since 2006, Gary Rouleau has been the Director of Grant Operations for J. O’Connell & Associates, Inc. Gary supervises the firm’s staff, manages project assignments and daily office operations. Prior to joining the firm, Gary served as Director of Special Projects for New York State Senator George Maziarz, where he worked with business leaders, elected officials and state agencies, local governments and citizens on policy issues, funding and legislation. Gary also served as Director of the New York State Senate Committee on Tourism, Recreation and Sports Development where he provided insight to the State Senate Committee on public policy issues and legislation relating to tourism, recreation and sports development in New York State. Before joining Senator Maziarz, Gary served as Regional Director to Governor George E. Pataki. Gary has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Valerie Ansuini Project Administrator 
Valerie Ansuini joined J. O’Connell & Associates, Inc. in 2008 as the firm’s Project Administrator. Valerie works closely with clients and funding agencies on all aspects of grant administration, including projects funded through the Office of Community Renewal, NYS Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation, NYS DEC, USDA Rural Development, NYS Department of State, NYS Department of Transportation, NYS Canal Corporation and Legislative Member Items. Prior to joining J. O’Connell & Associates, Inc., Valerie served as a Project Director at the Walther Cancer Institute in Indianapolis, IN. Valerie has a background in research and obtained her Master's degree from the University of Buffalo. Sheila Miller Research Assistant 
Sheila Miller joined J. O’Connell & Associates, Inc. in 2010 as a Research Assistant. Using the firm’s extensive resources and broad network of contacts in both public and private agencies, Sheila researches funding and grant opportunities to match the needs of the firm’s clients. She regularly sends announcements to clients communicating the particulars of various grant programs and advising them of the firm’s services to assist them in program and grant application development. Sheila has a BA in English and over ten years experience in both program planning and grant writing for both government and quasi-government agencies. Further, Sheila was president of a 501(c)(3) not for profit for three years, managing all aspects of the organizations operations and finances and has sat on the boards of several area community organizations. This experience provides an informed background that enhances her research for J. O’Connell & Associates’ clients. Thomas Lajewski Grant Writer 
Tom Lajewski joined J. O’Connell & Associates, Inc. in 2008. As a Grant Writer he takes the lead role in developing a wide variety of project applications for municipalities, school districts, and not-for-profit agencies, assisting clients with project concepts and planning, identifying resources, proposal writing, budgeting, and completing detailed applications. Prior to joining the firm, Tom was a Grants and Planning Assistant at a not-for-profit Community Action Agency in Chautauqua County and has completed The Grantsmanship Training Program, an intensive week-long training course in grant writing. Tom has both a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in English from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Kristen Segebarth Grant Writer
